A new Predator movie is reportedly in the works from Dan Trachtenberg, the director of 10 Cloverfield Lane.
Deadline says the new movie won’t include any of the plot elements from 2018’s The Predator, which was received poorly by critics and audiences. Patrick Aison, a writer and producer on Jack Ryan and a consultant for Legion, is writing the script.
John Davis will once again produce as he has done for the other four Predator movies. The movie will be released through Disney’s 20th Century Studios.
Dan Trachtenberg’s feature-length directorial debut was 10 Cloverfield Lane, which was released in 2016. Since then, Trachtenberg directed an episode of Black Mirror and the pilot to The Boys. This new Predator movie will be Trachtenberg’s second feature film.
The franchise’s previous entry, 2018’s The Predator, was written and directed by Iron Man 3’s Shane Black. It pulled in the highest box office gross for a single Predator movie with about $160 million. Only Aliens vs. Predator made more at the box office for the Predator franchise.
Unfortunately, The Predator cost a hefty $88 million to make and likely millions more to market, according to The Numbers. IGN’s The Predator review says the movie “splinters apart in the haphazard and shoddy-looking last half-hour, largely derailing what began as a promising entry in the wildly inconsistent franchise.”
The 10 Best ’80s Action Movies
There were apparently three different endings to The Predator, and one of which would’ve paid tribute to Aliens. Both Aliens and the original Predator made it onto IGN’s list of the best ’80s action movies.
