After a lengthy series of well-documented delays over the last two years, Marvel’s upcoming horror-superhero film New Mutants is reportedly slated to hit theaters starting August 28. Before being besieged by delays, complications, and reshoots, the movie was originally scheduled to be released in theaters April 13, 2018. But a new tweet from the movie’s official account clarifies that New Mutants will be in IMAX with a “yeah, really.”
A new trailer for the X-Men horror movie was released in conjunction with New Mutants’ Comic-Con@Home panel in July, which you can watch below. The official description of New Mutants calls it “an original horror thriller set in an isolated hospital where a group of young mutants is being held for psychiatric monitoring. When strange occurrences begin to take place, both their new mutant abilities and their friendships will be tested as they battle to try and make it out alive.”
The mutants in the film haven’t been featured in the X-Men franchise films yet. New Mutants stars Alice Braga Morales (The Suicide Squad) as Cecilia Reyes, Blu Hunt (The Originals) as Mirage, Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) as Wolfsbane, and others. The movie is based on the comics created by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod, and has an adapted screenplay from Josh Boone and Knate Lee. Boone (Stuck in Love, The Fault in Our Stars) serves as the director.
